Martin friend 'upset, angry' by verdict

Image
(CNN) -- The friend who was on the phone with Trayvon Martin when his fatal confrontation with George Zimmerman began said Monday she is "disappointed, upset, angry, questioning and mad" at Zimmerman's acquittal on murder charges. Rachel Jeantel called the verdict "BS" and said Martin, 17, was never aggressive. "He was a calm, chill, loving person who loved his family, definitely his mother, and a good friend," Jeantel told CNN's "Piers Morgan Live." Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida, was acquitted Saturday of second-degree murder charges in Martin's death. The killing sparked protests when police declined to bring charges against Zimmerman, leading to the appointment of a special prosecutor who eventually took the case to court. Prosecutors had argued that Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, had profiled and pursued the African-American teen. Juror: 'No doubt' that Zimmerman fea...

Man behind NSA leaks says he did it to safeguard privacy, liberty By Barbara Starr and Holly Yan, CNN

Image
(CNN) -- He's a high school dropout who worked his way into the most secretive computers in U.S. intelligence as a defense contractor -- only to blow those secrets wide open by spilling details of classified surveillance programs. Now, Edward Snowden might never live in the United States as a free man again. Where he may end up was a source of global speculation Sunday after he flew from Hong Kong to Russia, his ultimate destination unknown to most. Snowden has revealed himself as the source of documents outlining a massive effort by the U.S. National Security Agency to track cell phone calls and monitor the e-mail and Internet traffic of virtually all Americans. Snowden, 29, said he just wanted the public to know what the government was doing. "Even if you're not doing anything wrong you're being watched and recorded," he said. Snowden told The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom that he had access to the full rosters of everyone wo...

Defence HQ Says Origin Of Boko Haram ‘Sophisticated’ Weapons Difficult To Trace

Image
Nigeria’s Defence headquarters yesterday in Abuja said it was finding it increasingly difficult to trace the origin of what it called the ‘sophisticated’ weapons recovered from Boko Haram hideouts. Information Nigeria reports that large number of weapons including assault rifles, anti-aircraft machine guns, pistols, rocket propelled and hand grenades as well as many forms of grenade launchers were removed from abandoned insurgent camps taken over by Special Forces in the North East region of the country where soldiers have been on a major offensive against insurgents since May. Defence spokesman, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, who made this known at a press conference by joint security media committee, said: “Analysis of the weapons recovered from the insurgents is ongoing, not all of them are locally made; majority are foreign weapons. 7 Reasons Ladies Fall For The Wrong Men!

Image
Here are a few reasons why women fall for the wrong man: 1. Ladies, you know how people always say, “Actions speak louder than words?” Well, this very saying is getting a lot of you in big trouble. Yes, actions do speak, but please understand actions also lie and in some cases lie more than words. Actions only speak louder when the heart and motives of the person pursing you is pure. If that is not the case, then what you have is manipulation and womanizing. Many men already know they can fool you with actions and words, so stop believing actions mean anything unless it’s done consistently over a long period of time. Don’t forget this consistency also includes you. Your job is not to sit around and watch what he does while you do nothing. That is selfish and speaks of fear, etc. 2. You have s*x with a man and become closer to him than you really think you are. s*x causes soul ties and makes you emotional, thus you feel closer to a man than you really are. I don’t h...

Baba Suwe: “Pay me my money” – Baba Suwe Takes NDLEA To Supreme Court

Image
Baba Suwe has shown that he won’t easily back down. After the Court of Appeal in Lagos had over-turned the decision of the Lagos High Court to award him N25 million, Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe has decided to fight back as he takes the case to the Supreme Court of Nigeria to challenge the Court of Appeal ruling. High Justice Yetunde Idowu had ordered NDLEA to pay N25 million to Baba Suwe as compensation for detaining him for several days over false allegation of drug trafficking; weeks later, the Court of Appeal slammed the judgement saying it erroneous, oppressive and superfluous. Now, to the final stretch, Baba Suwe through his lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, prayed the apex court to allow the appeal, set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal and affirm the decision of the trial court. He contended that the Court of Appeal erred when it held that that exhibits I-VI (results of scan tests) were legally inadmissible. Baba Suwe added that that there is n...

Soyinka: You’re Incomplete Without Education •Says He Didn’t Graduate With Third Class

Image
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has called on the Federal and State Governments to eliminate all barriers to children’s education. He made the call in Aboekuta on Sunday when he hosted secondary school students across the country as part of this year’s Open Door Series Project, an international cultural exchange programme. He also used the occasion to dispel the insinuation that he graduated with third-class division, explaining that he graduated from the University College, Ibadan with a Second Class Upper. The programme was organised as part of activities to mark his 79th birthday. Soyinka appealed to the students, particularly, those studying in the violence-prone areas of the north, not to be discouraged by the activities of Boko Haram sect. He urged them to draw inspiration from the 16-year-old Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head on October 9, 2012 by Taliban fighters over her campaign for girl-child education in Pakistan. The 2 Easy Ways to Make Your PC Run Like New

Image
One of the most frustrating things in life is a slow computer.  Every few years, we buy an expensive new PC and love how fast it starts up, runs programs, and loads websites. Inevitably though, it starts to slow down until eventually we are pulling our hair out waiting for it to do routine tasks. Why is this?  It turns out the answer is actually quite simple and you don't even need to be "technical" to understand the causes and solutions. The good news: It's not the computer hardware that's the problem. In most cases, the hardware you have is perfectly capable of being restored to its original glory and kept in fast running condition with minimal effort. Rather, the problem lies with changes that occur to the PC's software. The two most common causes of slowdown (along with easy solutions) are: 1. The most common problem: registry errors Every time you (or your kids) load a program, game, or file, your PC's software registry is upd...

Explanation: How Brain Training Can Make You Significantly Smarter

Image
As many people hit middle age, they often start to notice that their memory and mental clarity are not what they used to be.  We suddenly can't remember where we put the keys just a moment ago, or an old acquaintance's name, or the name of an old band we used to love.  As the brain fades, we euphemistically refer to these occurrences as "senior moments." While seemingly innocent, this loss of mental focus can potentially have a detrimental impact on our professional, social, and personal well-being. It happens to most of us, but is it inevitable?  Neuroscientists are increasingly showing that there's actually a lot that can be done.  It turns that the brain needs exercise in much the same way our muscles do, and the right mental workouts can significantly improve our basic cognitive functions.  Thinking is essentially a process of making neural connections in the brain.  To a certain extent, our ability to excel in making the ne...

Soyinka broke his silence when he hosted secondary school students from across the country who were in Abeokuta, Ogun State to take part in this year’s “Open Doors Series” project, an international cultural exchange programme to mark his 79th birthday. According to Soyinka, he had kept silent on the matter over the years, but decided to open up for the sake of the children as mark of respect for them. The event, tagged: “Memoirs of our future,” was organized by a Lagos-based multimedia company, Zmirage and the state government.

IF EDUCATION IS EXPENSIVE TRY IGNORANCE

In my opinion, what the statement  "If you think education is expensive try  ignorance " is trying to say is that the disadvantages of not having an education outweighs the price of getting a good education. If you add in everything you might lose without an education, such as the chance to get a good job, the chance to meet great friends, improved chances of getting a spouse and even feelings of inferiority as compared to the better educated, you might realise that education is a long term investment that pays dividends for life. According to recent surveys, Americans with college degrees earned on average twice that of Americans with only a high school diploma. Besides this obvious monetary benefit, there's also the unquantifiable social and emotional advantages that education brings you, as I mentioned earlier.  Hence, when you say,  "If you think education is expensive try ignorance", you are comparing the expense of education to the expense of not having an...
